CLEXM ALBA Synchrotron Workshop Day 1!

CLEXM ALBA Synchrotron Workshop Day 1!

One of our CLEXM PHD students, Jakub Krstev attended a workshop in the ALBA Synchrotron in Barcelona, Spain. Jakub reports on his experience from the workshop Day 1.

“To facilitate the distribution of knowledge of world class SXT workflows to all doctoral candidates in the CLEXM training network, Dr. Ana Joaquina Perez Berna along with her colleague Dr. Claudia Fernandez Gonzalez provided us with a spectacular tour of the ALBA synchrotron and mistral beamline, as well as an in depth explanation of its intricate operation and hands on training in grid based SXT biological sample preparation.

Additionally two stunningly informative talks were given by Dr. Eva Pereiro Lopez and Dr. Dominique Heinis on the beamline optics, the physics underpinning them as well as the assumptions and limitations inherent to current SXT methodologies.

I would also note that the ALBA cafeteria is sublime and reason enough by itself to consider employment here, or at least booking some beamline time, if somehow the science didn’t have you convinced.

Many thanks to all the folks at ALBA for so kindly organizing this workshop as well as their amazing insights into the bleeding edge of SXT microscopy.” – Jakub Krstev.
